ALTINOVA
Altinova is situated next to the Balikesir-Izmir Provincial boundaries on the 68-84 vertical and 35-49 horizontal coordinates. It was first established in the first ages with the name of Ayazmend (AYASMENTHEOS) close to where the Central District is situated today. The excavations made in the Historical Windmill (Tarihi Yeldegirmeni) region have revealed that the settlement dates back to 3000 BC. It comprises two main neighborhoods namely the Merkez (Central) district and the Selimiye district. The know history of our town dates back to 1000 years ago. The administrative structure of our town has evolved throughout the history (from Sarbaylik to Municipal Village) before achieving its today's status of a Municipal Town today.
PERPERENE ANCIENT SITE IN KOZAK-ASAGIBEY VILLAGE
Parparana means "the land of the spring".The site is situated on the plateaus of the Madra Mountain, where spas are abundant.The investigations in Perperene were first made in 1886-1889 and its plans were drawn. The ruins of this ancient site is spread around a significantly wide area. The ruins of two intertwined castle walls and the theater are evident in the acropolis. The seats of the theater are very clear and obvious. There are ruins of a Temple and a Bath. The drum-shaped columns in the AGORA are noteworthy. Tombs carved into the rocks also draw attention in Perperene. It is understood from the remains in the ruins that 15 different coins were issued until the ends of the Hellenistic Roman period. The images on these coins show that Zeus, Athena, Apollo, Aphrodite, Demeter, and Asklepios were respected in Perperene. While Perperene was a summer resort in the Kingdom of Pergamon times, it is understood that it was a episcopacy in the Byzantine period after the 5th Century and undtil the end of the 15th Century.
The Yeldegirmeni Tepe (Windmill Hill) is also thought to be an ğmportant center of textile in this period. It is about 20 km to Altinova and the Tumulus of Yeldegirmeni.
AYAZMEND (TUMULUS OF YELDEGIRMENI)
Altinova, known as Ayazmend before the institution of the Republic, is a charming western town which embraced many civilizations throughout ages. The Ayazmend Windmill region is 1 km to the settlement today. While Perperene and Atarneus arfe important first age settlements, they also exhibit significant information with regards to the history of our town. The Hisar Neighborhood of Altinova is significant in that it is the location where the town of Ayazmend was first established. The castle wallruins date back to the 16th Century.
